Lovely companionship in Jomsom

20th March, 2018

Dev and I met in Jomsom in Kali Gandaki valley, when I was on my solo-trek there. We came to sit in a tiny restaurant/bar as it started to rain heavily outside. So we started chatting and enjoyed tea after tea. Dev is a really experienced guide and kind person. In the evening we met again for dinner together with his trekking group. It was such a funny, lovely evening together and the girls and guys kept on raving about how lucky they were with Dev as a guide, he couldn't have made any better choice :) I really enjoyed the sympathetic companionship that evening and valued the talk with Dev a lot who explained me about Nepal, its mountains and culture.

Peaceful Trekking with stunning views

12th May, 2018

Just go with the flow. Trekking together with Ram (Owner of Mountain Eco Treks) you will leave Nepal as a friend. It is not only safe it's furthermore fun, full of joy, and an authentic Nepal experience. Hiking side by side along some of the remotest paths towards or in the Himalayas region can literally bring you back to peace and its ceasing of your mind when you enjoy a spectacular view at 4800m or even higher altitude, sharing local Dhal Bat (don't dare to taste the real Nepali version) incl. an Everest Beer and have some nice conversation about the past and the very present is an experience what I enjoying since more than 5 years now bc. of Ram. His more than 13 years of lasting guiding experience will lead you to many better places even on the beaten tracks due to the many connections he has with almost everyone in that area plus he with his company takes care of his country through sponsoring an orphanage in Kathmandu too.

Thorong La Pass in winter with Ram

10th December, 2018

We, a group of three, did the Annapurna Circuit (+Poon Hill) in December 2018/January 2019 with Ram as our guide. We had an amazing experience and I would highly recommend doing the trek in winter instead of during the main season. If you can take the cold, you will be rewarded with clear skies and only very few other trekkers sharing the path with you.

Having an experienced guide like Ram with us gave us the peace of mind we needed to do the AC off-season. It also made our experience at the lodges a lot easier and more fun. We especially appreciated his being flexible and knowledgeable enough to change plans on the spot.

I would highly recommend Ram as a guide for any trek in Nepal! He is a very good company and a fun guy who will make your trip more enjoyable and memorable.

Anna Purna trail, amazing Nepal!

7th November, 2017

Completed the Annapurna circuit, an awesome trek in the beautiful mountains of Nepal. The trek takes you up to Throng La pass (5400+mtr) and passes lovely small towns with friendly people.
It's not a tough trek and can be done by anyone who has moderate fitness. But, high mountains can be dangerous, so prepare yourself! Eating and sleeping were done in several lodges along the trek. Picking the right one was done by our guide and saved us a lot of time and possible wrong choices.
We were guided by Ram Bahadur Tamang, a guy who knows all about the area and Nepal. He took care of us and arranged the whole trip, we only had to enjoy it! Thanks, Ram, well done!

Short Annapurna Circuit Trek – A Complete 12-Day Himalayan Adventure

The Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of Nepal’s most scenic and rewarding trekking adventures. Spanning approximately 160 km, this 12-day journey takes trekkers from Chame to Jomsom, showcasing diverse landscapes, traditional villages, and breathtaking Himalayan panoramas, including the massive Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu ranges. With Mountain Eco Treks guiding you, this trek combines safety, local insight, and an unforgettable Himalayan experience.

Is 12 Days Enough for the Annapurna Circuit?

A 12-day itinerary is sufficient to cover the highlights of the Annapurna Circuit while ensuring proper acclimatization. The route passes through varied terrains, from terraced farmlands to alpine valleys, culminating at the challenging Thorong La Pass (5,416 m). To fully enjoy the trek and reduce the risk of altitude sickness, Mountain Eco Treks includes rest days in Manang and before crossing the pass, allowing trekkers to acclimatize and experience the journey comfortably.

Essential Permits for the Trek

Before setting out, trekkers must secure the following permits: Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
Permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara. If your trek includes Tilicho Lake or Upper Mustang, additional permits are required. Mountain Eco Treks assists with all permit arrangements, ensuring a smooth start to your adventure.

Trekking Challenges for Beginners

Though moderately challenging, the 12-day Short Annapurna Circuit Trek is achievable for beginners with proper preparation. Cardio exercises such as hiking, jogging, or swimming for 3–6 months before departure help build stamina. Practicing multi-day hikes with a backpack simulates real trekking conditions. With Mountain Eco Treks’ guidance, even first-time trekkers can enjoy this journey safely.

Crossing Thorong La Pass

The Thorong La Pass is the trek’s highlight and its most demanding section. Early morning starts, careful acclimatization, and mental preparation are essential to handle cold and snowy conditions. Trekkers rewarded with panoramic views from the pass will find it an unforgettable milestone. Mountain Eco Treks ensures you are well-prepared for this iconic crossing.

Solo Trekking vs Guided Trek

While solo trekking is possible, joining a guided trek with Mountain Eco Treks offers safety, local knowledge, and logistical support. Experienced guides provide insights into culture, navigation, and emergency assistance, making the trek more enriching. Travel insurance covering trekking activities is also strongly recommended.

Accommodation Along the Route

The Annapurna Circuit is dotted with teahouses offering basic to comfortable lodging. Options range from simple dormitories to cozy lodges in larger villages. Peak trekking seasons require prior planning, and Mountain Eco Treks helps secure accommodations to ensure a comfortable stay throughout the journey.

Handling Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness can affect any trekker, regardless of experience. Key precautions include:

  • Descending to lower altitudes if symptoms appear
  • Resting and staying well-hydrated
  • Seeking medical assistance if necessary
  • Carrying a portable oxygen cylinder and knowing nearby medical facilities

Mountain Eco Treks provides guidance and support to help trekkers manage altitude safely.

Best Time to Trek the Short Annapurna Circuit Trek

The Annapurna Circuit can be trekked year-round, with each season offering unique experiences:

Spring (March–May): Rhododendrons bloom, skies are clear, and lower regions are mild. Perfect for panoramic Himalayan views.
Autumn (September–November): Post-monsoon trails are dry and clear, air is crisp, and local festivals enrich the cultural experience.
Winter (December–February): Trails are quiet and peaceful, though higher altitudes are snowy. Ideal for trekkers seeking solitude and stunning sunrise views.
Monsoon (June–August): Heavy rainfall creates lush landscapes and dramatic waterfalls. Trekking requires caution and proper rain gear, suitable for experienced hikers.
With Mountain Eco Treks, you can plan your trek in any season, balancing adventure with safety and comfort.
